I woke up this morning, made some bacon, and checked on our Baconeers in Facecrack land. And well, Sizzle my biscuits! I found all this chatter on the Facecrack machine regarding some SOPA/PIPA stuff. I used to be a rocket scientist and let me tell ya, in those two years I had my fill of acronyms... but these SOPA/PIPA acronyms came in the same sentences as shutting down the internets/censorship and other ideas that suck.

We had a blast at the Seattle VA Puget Sound Fisher House last weekend with our top secret sauce Bacon Photo Shoot. We are getting a 2012 calendar in the works ....all proceeds benefit the Seattle Fisher House which is an amazing organization that provides housing for veterans and their families while getting treated at the VA.

Having a loved one in the hospital sucks and there are only two things that can make it better.... the magic of community at the Fisher House and...of course, BACON!

Adventures into @BaconSalt - Jalapeno Poppers mmmm

I'm learning that Seattle is a vortex of bacon enthusiasts - bacon vodka, bacon salt, bacon bandaids, bacon scotch..dude, we're bacon crazy!

A few weeks ago I met the fine folks at J&D Foods - purveyors of BaconSalt, bacon lip balm, Baconaisse (bacon mayonnaisse!), bacon _envelopes_ ... they are two fun awesome guys on a mission to make everything taste like bacon! I tried their bacon cheddar BaconSalt this weekend and am hooked.

Food no longer looks like food, but a vehicle for BaconSalt! Hard boiled eggs, popcorn, roasted broccoli..nothing is safe from experiments in BaconSalt! Here is my experiment in cheddar baconsalt jalapeno poppers = straight up deliciousness!

Jalapeno Poppers Recipe

1. Wash, halve and seed 6 jalapeno peppers. Remember to wear gloves while seeding and cutting jalapenos! (hot pepper in eye or other sensitive body areas = no good for all parties involved) Place jalapenos on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet (I ran out of parchment paper but recommend this route). Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

St. Anthony, Patron St. of Bacon, sprinkles some BaconSalt on the assembled poppers.

2. In a small bowl mix up 4 oz (half a brick) of cream cheese that has been softened to room temperature with 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Add salt, black pepper and BaconSalt to taste (I used Cheddar BaconSalt but I imagine this would be good with most flavors of BaconSalt)

3.Use a small spoon to stuff each jalapeno half with the delicious cheese mixture of awesomeness. You may be tempted to lick the spoon after doing this. Be warned that you will probably end up burning your lips if you do this. (That was my experience = no fun, but it tasted so good that it was almost worth it.)

St. Anthony gives the poppers his final blessing before they go into the oven.

4. Bake jalapenos at 400F for 10 minutes... turn the tray after cooking five minutes. Sprinkle some extra BaconSalt on for good measure, share with friends (things always taste better when you share them!) and enjoy!

Hot poppers straight out of the oven make St. Anthony smile. (and test my iphone camera to the limits!) Viva la meat candy!

We are grateful to have met a bunch of fine folks this weekend and among them were the lovely folks at BaconScotch.com!* And they were ever so lovely to do a nice writeup of our little bacon people.. check it out here! Big bacony kisses to you guys! MUAHHHH sizzle.

(We are learning that Seattle is a bastion of bacon-preneurs - it must have something to do with the sunshine that bacon brings into our lives during the long gray winters here. That, or there really are aliens on Mt. Rainier who are looking to bring joy and peace to the world through meat candy...)
